Naphtha Separation Process

The objective of this control application was to stabilise the temperature in column C3, to adjust the point of separation between light and heavy naphtha.

The naphtha separation process

To the right is a diagram of the naphtha separation process. Below is a comparison of ADEX vs PID of standard and maximum deviation of the key variables: Pressure, Column Level and Temperature. Greatly improved performance solved problems of instability and resonance.

Temperature Control

Achieved by adjusting the flow rate of heating fluid through the reboiler (naphtha flow rate through reboiler constant). Temperature in column influenced by pressure at top of splitter column and level of fluid in the column.
