Water Purification
The project applied ADEX control to the biological purification phase of the waste water treatment plant of San Fernando, Madrid (Spain). The system replaced a PID control system which was controlling oxygen levels in pools of water designed to carry out purification through bacterial action. The efficiency of the process requires an optimised control of oxygen which in turn provides for efficient cleansing by the bacteria.
The biological purification process presented particularly difficult challenges for the control system due to its multivariable dynamics with significant non linear, time variant interactions, and intermittent perturbations.
ADEX was used to maintain oxygen concentrations at constant levels and maintain air pressure in a common pipe at optimum levels to minimize energy consumption.
