Analysis of the European Day-Ahead prices per hour of the day and country
Jose A. Martinez made an Analysis of the evolution of the Day-Ahead Electricity Prices over the 24 hours of the day per country, based on the ENTSO-e data. It is a bit surprising to see some champions and some tail wagons.
The graph shows the annual average of the prices in that hour per country. Within the different months, there is an additional variation that is blurred by the averages.
To ease the visualization, you can filter the countries in the graph by bigger generation, smaller generation or All.
Solar & Wind are pushing for lower “core” prices but higher volatility and costly services to balance the system.
In this context, Combined-Cycle Gas Turbines and Hydro power plants need to keep the flexibility of the system. But many countries are not paying this service accordingly, putting their economical survival on risk.
